Maternity Jeans Review

Let me tell you, when I was getting dressed one morning during week 18 of my pregnancy and none of my jeans would button, it was a rude awakening!  I thought I would have time to notice the change, but nope!  It seemed to happen over night.  I quickly overnighted more pairs of maternity jeans than I care to admit.  And since, I’ve found quite a few pairs I love and wear daily!  After tons of requests to share my maternity jeans review, I am finally sharing my favorites at all price points today!

Jeans: Loft (wearing size 0P) | Sweater: Madewell | Bralette: Aerie | Shoes: Steve Madden | Phone Case: Loopy (code SOMETHING10 for 10% off!)

Loft jeans in general are super comfortable and typically high quality fabric for the price point.  So, when I saw that they had a maternity jeans selection I definitely wanted to give them a try.  I would say the thing I like most about these jeans is that they come in petites!  So far, Loft is the only retailer that I have found that carries petite maternity jeans!  Here, I’m wearing the 0 Petite and the length is absolutely perfect. I would say to stick with your true pre-pregnancy size when buying most maternity jeans, including these!

As far as the fit and fabric, they are a true skinny jean in a true, not super stretchy denim.  I’ve had a tough time finding maternity jeans that aren’t crazy stretchy, as a I prefer a stiffer denim, and these are great!  The belly band is super comfortable and made out of high quality material as well.  It is a little thicker than some, but I kind of like that because it hides my belly button a bit…haha!

[ann]Jeans: Citizens of Humanity (wearing size 25) | Sweater: Nordstrom (similar) | Shoes: Nordstrom  [/ann]

These Citizens of Humanity maternity jeans were one of the first pair that I bought when my normal jeans stopped fitting.  And they are still one of my favorite pairs!  Rather than a typical full-belly panel you see on most maternity jeans, these have stretchy side panels where the front pockets would be on either hip.  The distressing is so cute and I get tons of compliments on these.  No one ever knows that they’re maternity jeans!

I will say that the price tag on these is much higher than others, but honestly I think they are well worth it.  You can get the most use out of this side-panel style because you can wear them as soon as your regular jeans start to get too tight, and hopefully wear them all the way up until birth (and postpartum).  They are also the most discreet because the button and zipper are fully functioning.

Jeans: Citizens of Humanity (wearing size 25) | Tank: Ingrid & Isabel (non-maternity version) | Cardigan: Madewell | Shoes: Nordstrom

This is the same exact fit as the black distressed pair I am wearing and talking about above, just in a blue denim.  Because of how much I wear the black pair, I wanted to invest in a denim pair as well.  While I absolutely LOVE the fit, wash, and minor distressing of these, I don’t like how the stretchy fabric on the pockets is black and not blue to match the denim.  On the black pair, you don’t notice at all because it matches, but on this blue pair you notice if my top comes up high enough.  Definitely isn’t a factor to keep me from purchasing them again, but just wanted to give you the heads up!

Overall, these two pairs are my favorite pairs of maternity jeans I have tried (and I’ve literally tried at least 20 pairs)!  They are well worth the investment to keep you comfortable!

Jeans: Pink Blush (wearing size 25) |  Top: Urban Outfitters | Sneakers: Steve Madden

Pink Blush is an online boutique I had only heard of a few times, but they have a huge maternity selection so when I was on the hunt for maternity jeans I checked them out!  I was pleasantly surprised when I received this pair in the mail because they were significantly less expensive than a lot of other pairs I ordered, but fit really well!  They are a medium blue wash and the denim is super stretchy.  That’s not necessarily my preference because I like the feeling of being “held in” in my jeans, but they are very comfortable!

I also like that the belly band on these starts up higher than most.  I hate when I am wearing a top and it rides up a bit and the band can be seen.  That is totally not the case with these!  Also, as far as length goes, I cut them so they wouldn’t be too long.

Jeans: AG (wearing size 25) | Top: Aerie | Shoes: Nordstrom

As far as designer maternity jeans go, I tend to prefer the side panel versions.  But if you are a full panel fan, these AG secret belly ankle jeans are so comfy!  Again, well worth the investment!  The band on them is nude which is awesome if you want to wear a white shirt because it won’t show through.  And speaking of the band, it is made up of the softest, thinest material so you won’t feel hot or uncomfortable in them in the slightest.

Order your pre-preganacy size in these as well and they will fit perfect!  If you are unsure about how the side panels will fit, and want to invest in one nice pair of maternity jeans for your pregnancy, these are it!

The jeans linked have a navy blue belly band, but that is the exact pair I ordered and they came with a nude belly band!

Jeans: A Pea in the Pod (wearing size 25) | Top: A Pea in the Pod | Shoes: Nordstrom

I was so excited to find a cute pair of boyfriend maternity jeans!  I had ordered a couple and really was not impressed by them at all.  But, when I was shopping at my local A Pea in the Pod store, I came across these (and this tee) and fell in love!  Honestly, I think I like them better than any of my non-maternity boyfriend jeans!

As far as the fit, they have the same thin, nude belly band as the AG’s above and fully functional front pockets!  I am wearing my pre-pregnancy size, and they fit perfectly.  I do think I am going to have them hemmed though because I like my boyfriend jeans to be more of an ankle length.

Bella Band (size 1) | Jeans: Free People | Top: Loft | Shoes: Nordstrom

If you are someone who does not want to invest in maternity jeans, or if you are like me and want the flexibility to wear your pre-pregnancy jeans then a BellaBand is the answer!  A BellaBand is a soft band that feels like a stretchy tank top that you can step into and pull over your unbuttoned jeans to cover the opening.  It makes it look like you are wearing a tank top under your shirt.  I have this version from Nordstrom, but I have also heard great things about this Target option.

These are awesome to really allow you to stretch your wardrobe during pregnancy.  I love having the option to wear them, but honestly prefer actual maternity jeans because they are more comfortable.  I can’t really get over the fact that my pants are wide open all day 😂.

Jeans: Target (00/24) | Top: Nordstrom | Shoes: Steve Madden

Had to feature a Target pair for you ladies!!  These Target maternity jeans are a side-panel version that goes under the belly.  They are lower waisted than my other side panel options above, so they really hit underneath your belly (if you look close at the photo on the right you can see my belly peeking through 😉).  I love how they are a classic, dark wash skinny jean with no distressing.  However, they really are not all that comfortable.  The price point makes them nice to have, but comfort-wise, they are definitely the least comfy of all the pairs I’ve featured.  But, the $30 price tag does make them nice to have in my closet!

Be sure to size down in these if you try them because they run big!  I ordered one size smaller than my pre-pregnancy size and still have room!

This was an amazing round up of reviews. I know when we first get pregnant we tend to be a little bit hesitant to buy maternity clothes because they can be really pricey. Also we think if we justify the fact that we won’t be wearing them for very long then we shouldn’t buy any. My first pregnancy I didn’t buy a whole lot of maternity clothes but this second time around I am buying! I would rather be comfy for 10 months than uncomfortable busting out of my pants haha! Your bump is adorbs by the way!!

Thank you for this!!!! I am exactly at 18 was of pregnancy and having been a size 0 pre-pregnancy it’s been so difficult to find maternity jeans that fit me! Even the XS at target was too big. But good to know that there are so many other retailers out there that sell cute maternity clothes…. I’m definitely purchasing the pea in the pod boyfriend jeans 🙂

This last summer I bought all my maternity jeans at Kohl’s that were on clearance for $10 each!! You should check out Kohl’s for jeans as well. They’re all super comfy and stylish. I live in a small town so my only options for maternity clothing stores are Target, Ross, Motherhood Maternity, Walmart, and Kohl’s. Kohl’s has been the winner for stretchy comfy denim. The two pairs I have from Target slide down constantly and aren’t as stretchy.
