Dining Room Refresh

Welcome to my home, friends!  It’s been a while since I’ve done a home update, but that’s pretty much because once Rhett came, all home projects went to the back burner 😂.  But this past month, we’ve been diving right back into some remodel projects, as well as some simper refresh projects!  Having to budget for the remodel, some of the spaces in our house have been put on a limited spend amount to just “refresh” the space and make it feel homier.  That’s exactly what we wanted to do with our dining room decor.

The room itself was fairly simple and a very clean slate.  It’s right off our entryway, so I knew I wanted it to look cute because it’s one of the first rooms you see as you walk in the front door.  But, with actual remodels going on in other areas of the house, this space was one we put on a tight budget to “refresh.”  We had brought our dining room table, chairs, and even this chandelier from our last house, and since we moved in last summer, that’s all that we have had in here.  I splurged on the table and chairs because I knew I wanted to have them for years.  (This is the Restoration Hardware Salvaged Wood Trestle Rectangular Extension Table & the 1940’s French Barrelback Chairs)

I wanted to add some sort of dining buffet table to store all of our different serving dishes that don’t fit well in our kitchen cabinets, so it seemed like the perfect piece.  However, with spending quite a bit on this dining set to begin with, and wanting to save the money for other remodels we have going on throughout the house (currently our guest bath & laundry room in particular), my options were pretty limited.  In all, for our dining room refresh I had less than $500 to spend, and I love how it turned out!

I found this buffet cabinet while browsing through Target‘s furniture section online and I thought it might be perfect!  It was small enough that it wasn’t going to feel bulky in the room with the current furniture and the wood tone looked like it would match really well.  However, I was pretty nervous to mix Target furniture with Restoration Hardware.  But, you cannot even tell!  Mixing high and low furniture is totally now my jam and I am going to do it throughout our house!  Investing in things that are going to get the most wear and tear is key (thinking sectional in family room, dining room table, etc.), but saving where it doesn’t matter stretches your budget so much farther!

The buffet cabinet is filled with different serving dishes we don’t use daily (most are from Target!).  Next to it was a big open corner and I knew the room needed a plant.  I found this faux Banana tree at Target, as well as this basket to put it in that matched everything perfectly.  On top of the buffet, I put this mirror from Anthropologie that I had from our last house.  It is my favorite piece ever and I am so glad I found the perfect spot for it!  I then just added a few wood candlesticks and vase with faux eucalyptus stems (these are the most real looking I’ve EVER found!), and this cute little sign from the Magnolia Home section at Target.

All of these things were relatively inexpensive and have completely changed the look of the entire room!  It’s now one of my favorite rooms in the house and it honestly used to be so boring.  Now, onto the living room 😉.  Well keep you posted as we go!  But, in the meantime, check out our new house tour to see all the before photos, as well as all of our other recent home projects HERE.
