3 Ways to Wear Faux Leather Leggings

One of my favorite items to wear during Fall and Winter are faux leather leggings!  I have sworn by this pair for the past two years, and love them so much that I ordered them in the maternity version to wear during my pregnancy.  They are still one of my favorite things to wear, and go with so much in your closet.  I got a DM from a sweet follower a few weeks back saying she bought them and loved them so much, but was unsure how to style them.  So today I’m sharing 3 ways to wear faux leather leggings to help you create tons of outfits out of them with pieces you may already have in your closet!

With an Oversized Sweater and Over-the-Knee Boots

Hands down my favorite way to wear faux leather leggings is with an oversized sweater and over-the-knee boots.  The over-the-knee boots keep the streamlined look of the faux leather leggings, while the oversized sweater balances out the whole outfit.  Creating balance like this is really essential with faux leather leggings to keep you from looking like you’re heading out to a club (if you know what I mean 😉).  The large sweater balance out the smaller/tighter leggings and creates the cutest look!  Adding a scarf just adds even more volume to the top half and makes you look extra cozy!

This sweater is one of my favorites and is only $25!  It comes in a few colors and naturally runs oversized, so just order your normal size to get it to fit like this (I’m wearing an xs for reference).  And if you’re in the market for over-the-knee boots but have never worn them before, I recommend trying out a less expensive pair like this one or this one that’s under $100 to see how you like them.  Once you fall in love (you will!), then you’ll feel more comfortable splurging on a pair like these!

With a Plaid/Chambray and Sneakers

Look one (above): Plaid Top: Madewell | White Tee: Free People | Leggings: Nordstrom | Sneakers: Steve Madden | Bag: Madewell
Look two (below): Plaid Top: Old Navy  | White Tee: Free People | Leggings: Nordstrom | Sneakers: Nike (similar)

This is the perfect combo for any weekend!  Faux leather leggings can definitely be dressed up, but I almost prefer them dressed down in an athleisure look best.  One of my favorite ways to style them is with an oversized plaid or chambray shirt and sneakers.  Being pregnant, buttoning a shirt isn’t exactly feasible, so I just layered this long-sleeve tee underneath both of these outfits.  I also like to layer it with this tank top; I order it in the “tall” version so that it covers my backside with the leggings.

This first look would be perfect for any Fall day, and this plaid top is so pretty!!!  It would look adorable buttoned and front-tucked into a pair of high-waisted jeans too.  The burgundy flannel below is from Old Navy and comes in a ton of colors!  It is my favorite flannel because of how thin it is!  I sized up to a small for a more oversized fit, and if I wanted to button it and wear it with leggings, I may even size up one more to a medium.

You could easily swap a chambray shirt with either of these two outfits!

With a Cardigan, Scarf, and Booties

Cardigan: Nordstrom | White Tee: Free People | Scarf: Old Navy | Leggings: Nordstrom | Booties: Chinese Laundry (similar) | Bag: Prada

As it gets cooler, bundling up with a chunky knit cardigan and a scarf is one of my favorite ways to keep warm.  Balancing this chunky, cozy top half of your body with faux leather leggings is a super cute way to style it!  You can make a million different outfits with this simple combination just by switching out one piece at a time!  Scarves are one of my favorite things to purchase this time of year because they can be fairly inexpensive, but can create multiple different outfits.  Just sapping out the scarf in this outfit would create a totally different look!

This outfit combination is the perfect mix of cute and cozy and will keep you super warm!

Which of the three is your favorite look?
